Flip-Top Mitten Pattern

This is my own pattern for flip-top mittens, I could not find a pattern that I liked so I got all creative and designed my own. When making these things it is really important that you try them on all the time to make sure they fit. That way you can make the fingers as long as you want. I designed them to fit my hands, and I have small, child-sized hands, but I think these would fit a more average sized hand too.

Materials:
2 balls Bernat Alpaca Blends (I used dark grey)
Size 8 double pointed needles
Crochet hook (I used a size N)
2 Buttons

Glove:
CO 24 sts.
Work in 1 X 1 rib for 2 inches.
Switch to stockinette stitch and work two rounds.
Choose one of the needles to start the thumb shaping and Inc2 on that needle every rnd for 5 rnds.
Work 2 rnds without shaping.
Inc1 on same needle as before every rnd for 3 rnds (37 sts).
Work 5 rnds without shaping.
Put 13 stitches that are closest to the increased side on needles and put the rest on holder.
Pick up 2 sts and work thumb around, begin gradually decreasing closer to the top of the thumb.
Draw yarn through, pull yarn through the inside, tighten and cut yarn.
Put remaining sts back on needles, join yarn, pick up 1 st at the join where the thumb is.
Work 3 rnds, then inc3 on next rnd and 2 sts on next rnd.
Put 8 sts opposite from thumb on needles and put the rest on holder.
Pick up 2 sts and knit around, BO and cut yarn (I stopped halfway between my first and second knuckles).
Put remaining sts on needles, join yarn, pick up 2 sts and Inc5 throughout rnd.
Put 11 sts next to pinkie on needles and the rest on holder.
Pick up 1 st and knit around, BO around first knuckle, cut yarn.
Put 11 sts closest to thumb on needles and put the rest on holder.
Join yarn, pick up 1 st and knit around, BO around first knuckle, cut yarn.
Repeat with last 12 sts.
Weave in ends, using tails to close any holes between fingers.

Cap:
CO 30 sts, work in 1 X 1 rib for 4 rnds.
Switch to stockinette stitch and work until the cap is as long as the fingers on the glove are.

Knit 1 rnd.
K9, k2tog, ssk, k9, k2tog, ssk.
Knit 1 rnd.
K7, k2tog, ssk, k7, k2tog, ssk.
Knit 1 rnd.
K5, k2tog, ssk, k5, k2tog, ssk.
Knit 1 rnd.
K3, k2tog, ssk, k3, k2tog, ssk.
Knit 2 rnds.
Cut yarn and draw it through remaining stitches.
Using crochet hook, chain a few times and pull tail of yarn through to other side, keeping the chaing on the outside, forming a loop at the top of the cap.
Weave in ends.

Finishing:
Sew cap onto glove.
Sew on button on glove cuff.
Block if desired (I didn't).

Repeat everything for the second mitten.
